74 Years Schwaben Club

by Herwig Wandschneider

Herwig WandschneiderThe Schwaben Club celebrated the 74th anniversary in February  with a dinner and dance. (see their history at www.kitchenerschwabenclub.com)

But this time it was everything but the "usual". If this was any indication of things to come, the 75th Anniversary next year is bound to be a hilarious evening of entertainment, a good dinner (the Club has a new Chef) and superb presentations by the Club’s Schwaben- and Donau- as well as the Junior- Dancers.

This evening was uproariously MC’d by Joe Groh, the Club’s Finance Secretary. What appeared to be an evening of a comedy of errors was perhaps partially planned, but there were some comic errors in addition to that, which were so well bridged by Mr. Groh, that it all was relaxing fun. So much so, that time appeared to run away on the plan, which no one appeared to complain about.

The Donau-and Schwaben- Dancers were dynamic. "Throwing the ladies around" at this fast pace requires a great deal of confidence in each member of the team. They are great fun to watch, and because they dance with such enthusiasm, it draws the audience with it.

Music was provided by "The Golden Keys", with a good range of tunes and dance styles from "Stimmungsmusik" and Ballroom to Polka, for which they have become well known and are much in demand. During dinner they played excellent background music keeping to a lower volume to permit lively conversation around the tables.

President Dieter Hanke [photo: Herwig Wandschneider]For the new Executive, this was one very good start to their term. Dieter Hanke, President, and Guenther Haas, Vice President, the Executive and Board should be very pleased with the teamwork, which produced this first major event under their management.
