Rob Kapilow: Elijah’s Angel / Rob Kapilow: Chris Van
Allsburg’s "Polar Express" / Christmas carol sing-along
Join the TSO for a heartwarning afternoon of holiday stories
and music as we present two of Rob Kapilow’s enchanting musical settings of
Christmas classics. Chris Van Allsburg’s best-selling book "The Polar
Express" tells the story of a boy who boards a mysterious train bound for
the North Pole in search of a very special gift. In Michael Rosen’s story
for Chanukah and Christmas, Elijah’s Angel, a young Jewish boy and an
elderly Black wood-carver learn that the differences that separate us are
not as important as the connections that bring us together. This concert
will be performed with an intermission. Ticket price includes pre-concert
and intermission activities, and art activities run by the Avenue Road Arts
School!

Some pieces of music are destined for glory from the
beginning. Handel was so inspired to compose Messiah that he completed it in
only three weeks. At the London première, King George II was so moved by the
"Hallelujah" chorus that he rose to his feet, a gesture that became
tradition to this day. Christmas isn’t complete without this masterpiece!
