 June 2008 - Nr. 6

Choral specialist, Dr. Gary Fisher, is starting a children’s choir in Burlington. An opening concert in the spring of 2008 was extremely successful and we are preparing for a full season for 2008-9. The structure of the choir will depend on interest and response, but the goal is to develop a beginning and advanced division, based on age and skill levels.

Dr. Fisher is currently the director of the Burlington Civic Chorale, a community choir which has served Burlington for the past fourteen years. He has taught music with the Halton District School Board, led the High Park Choirs of Toronto, directed multi-leveled children’s and church choirs and feels that there is room for a children’s choir in Burlington.

The Children’s Choir of Burlington is seeking children who:

  • want to sing in an excellent and challenging choir
  • enjoy gaining new and lasting friendships
  • wish to learn music reading skills
  • want to learn how to sing beautifully
  • are thrilled by the sheer joy of music

Our Expectations:

  • Ability to sing with conviction and accuracy
  • Commitment to weekly rehearsals and seasonal performances
  • Willingness to practice music and study materials outside of rehearsal
  • Parental support through volunteer involvement

Children must be 9 years old to audition. Auditions will be held in June for the fall season.

Additionally, we will be offering a training choir for children in grades 1-3 ("Prelude Choir") who love music and would like to learn about singing. There are no auditions for this younger group.

If this sounds like something you would really want to do, then you need to contact: Martine Fornoville at 905-336-8537 or martyisms@yahoo.ca and get information on auditions, fees, rehearsals and startup details.

Any adults who are passionate about children’s choirs should contact us regarding volunteer involvement and/or possible Board membership.
