Toronto — The Canadian National
Exhibition (CNE) today announced that its 129th year in 2007 was
a resounding financial success. With a surplus of $1.6 million,
The EX more than made up for less positive results in 2006
caused by poor weather. Since kicking off the new millennium
with the 2000 CNE, The EX has continued to improve its financial
position, contributing more than $4.2 million to the City of
Toronto. The last eight years may just be a blink in the history of the 130-year-old fair — one of the largest of its kind in North America — but the numbers tell the tale of consistent consumer popularity, high exhibitor interest and sponsorship support. CNE attendance remains at the top of all Canadian events as well as near the top of all North American events, with more than 10 million people visiting since 2000 alone. "We share the community’s pride in the success of the CNE," said CNE General Manager David Bednar. "As a society and as individuals, each year the CNE reminds us where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. And with everything that adds up to the CNE experience, many corporations have realized the attractiveness of the CNE audience in terms of marketing and sales opportunities." The 2008 CNE is anticipated to be another resounding success, with new feature attractions like Circus Orange’s Jump Jet and the Aerialist & Equestrian Show side-by-side with returning favourites like the Canadian International Air Show and the IAMS SuperDogs Show. In honour of its 130th Anniversary, the 2008 Midway is bigger and better than ever, guaranteeing fun and excitement for all ages, at an affordable price. "The CNE is still the best fun and the best value in town," says Bednar. "Any one of our major attractions is worth the price of admission alone." Daily adult admission to the CNE ($14) is less than many of Toronto’s attractions, such as the Toronto Zoo ($20), Ontario Place ($17.75), and the Ontario Science Centre ($18). The EX is one of North America’s largest annual fairs, attracting more than a million people over 18 days each summer. The 2008 CNE takes place from August 15 to September 1, with the CNE Horse Show and Casino opening July 22 and CNE Horseplay getting underway on July 28th.
