Israel in Egypt will launch the TMC 09-10 season with the first choral performance in The Royal Conservatory's spectacular new Koerner Hall. George Frideric Handel's lavishly powerful word painting embodies trial and triumph, as it dramatically depicts the plagues that God sent to the Egyptians and the Israelites' flight from bondage. Noel Edison will conduct the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Festival Orchestra with special guests Suzie LeBlanc, soprano; David Trudgen, counter-tenor; Michael Colvin, tenor; Thomas Goerz, bass-baritone; on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.

An annual Christmas tradition, this year's Festival of Carols features Britten's Ceremony of Carols and other holiday season favourites. Conducted and narrated by Noel Edison, the TMC will also welcome harpist Judy Loman and organist William Maddox to the stage to perform with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Festival of Carols will ignite the Christmas spirit on Wednesday December 9, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church.

It wouldn't be the holiday season without Toronto's Favourite Messiah performed with matchless spirit by the TSO and the TMC! This performance of Handel's immortal masterpiece will be under the direction of the Baroque specialist Jean-Marie Zeitouni and sung with massive vocal splendor by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and a stellar lineup of soloists including soprano Shannon Mercer, countertenor Matthew White, tenor Colin Balzer, and baritone Tyler Duncan. Toronto's Favourite Messiah will be performed December 16-21, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at Roy Thomson Hall.

At Sacred Music for a Sacred Space, sacred works by contemporary masters Arvo Pärt, Eric Whitacre, Pavel Lukaszewski, and Canadian Timothy Corliss, take on a new dimension in the beautiful space and acoustics of St. Paul's Basilica. John Tavener's rarely heard Svyati for cello and chorus employs an unusual combination of musical forces to powerful effect. Noel Edison will conduct the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and Mendelssohn Singers with soloist John Marshman, cello. Sacred Music for a Sacred Space will be performed on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Basilica. It's an intensely moving experience befitting Easter weekend.

A Night at the Opera
