 July 2009 - Nr. 7

Since the second of July the doors are open again. The store has been rejuvenated but the knowledgeable and helpful staff has remained the same. It was a long waiting period for many months because a fire damaged part of the store had to be restored as per building codes and with inspector approval. The many customers in the East end, who depended on this source of high-quality merchandise, meats, baked goods and – just in time – barbeque supplies, had to go elsewhere. Some had to go – God forbid – to supermarkets that did not carry what they and their families were used to.

But not to worry. Forget the supermarkets; everything is back to normal – even the lunch counter and the catering service are back at 1050 Birchmount Road in Scarborough.

Thanks to Jutta, Erich and Ingo Brandes for realizing that they were needed - since there is no store like theirs anywhere near their location - and not throwing in the towel, despite the difficulties encountered. Good Luck!   r.k.a.
