Martinitanz
The “Burgenländische Gemeinschaft” did it again.
The Martini dance was as good as sold out. After the initial
welcome by John Brunner, the new president of the Burgenländer
Club – and the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft - everyone was asked
to rise for the
national anthems of the Burgenland, Austria and
Canada. This always is a solemn occasion for most people.
As soon as the official part was over, the Golden Keys started
to play the first selections of their rich palette of
Evergreens. This immediately filled the dance floor and the only
time that it was not crowded was when the band took a – well
deserved – break.

The food service was appreciated by the guests – some had come
from the Hansa Club and the Donauschwaben – and schnitzel
dinners or sausages, complemented by sauerkraut and a tasty
potato salad were everyone’s favorites. A small plate of various
home-baked cookies found a lot of sweet-toothed fans. Yes, there
was also coffee to go with the cookies! But the serious drinking
required a serious beverage, like beer for example and “Gösser
beer”, from Austria, was the preferred choice for almost
everyone.
One of the largest tombola (raffle) was also in evidence. Many
of the prizes were still packaged and one could not tell what
was inside, thus increasing the ticket sales since people were
too curious to stay away! Very clever marketing! But I don’t
think anybody was disappointed.
Kudos to the many supporters who donated prizes and all the
little elves who so generously donated baked goods and personal
time, as well also to those many volunteers who contributed in
many ways to the success of this event
As always
