Stiftungsfest Concordia ClubAnother annual event is the celebration of the existence of the Concordia Club. It is a day of honoring those that built the club and served it. Sarah Allmendinger was her usual charming self as the MC for the evening. She welcomed everyone after a wonderful meal prepared by the club’s kitchen and no time was wasted in introducing the 26 honorary members, most of whom were present. New members and Miss Concordia 2010, were also welcomed. Then Werner Schlueter, President of the club took the podium and made his comments for the anniversary of the club, now 137 years old. He pointed out the many contributions made by the German community in this area, especially our modern day pioneer Wayne Wettlaufer, who introduced the German Pioneers Day to the Ontario Government so we now have a day on which we can celebrate the community’s achievements and contributions in a way that has increased public awareness tremendously.
Werner Schlueter also announced that he will not stand for
reelection next year as president, but will stay on the task he
set out to do for some time already as a past president, that is
to legalize the Concordia Farm. Some snags prevented this from
being completed already that evening. Politics got in the way.
He then directed everyone to celebrate their achievements and was asked to stay on hand to help Heidi Nowak and Miss Concordia to hand out the many pins for membership recognition:
22 people received a pin for a 10 year membership, 30 for 25 years, 32 for 40 years, 11 for 50 years, and then there was one for a 60 year membership, Paul Tuerr, last announced at the President’s Ball as the newest honorary member. That was welcomed with much applause, and it was obvious that he too was pleased.
Of course the evening would not be complete without the Concordia Choir singing a few jubilating hymns for all to enjoy before in the end the band played for general dancing pleasure.
