Kinderbescherung

Another annual custom is observed in the community of Danube Swabians, Scarborough. Lori Szauter is in charge of that event, as with all other children activities of the club.

The 12 days of Christmas

Whole families come together to play and re-enact the singing of the 12 days of Christmas, and play little sketches for everyone’s enjoyment.

Chase of the Snowman

This year there was a darling chase of the snowman, which did get away…Good thing too, because he was played by Miss Danube Cheyenne Kertes, who had still other duties to perform.

Stories and poems

Children told stories or recited poems, always very proud when they can do it in German.

Of course, there was carolling under the tree. Lori Szauter directed the choir as only she does. (Part of the choir is seen on our frontpage.)

After all that there is the ritual of Santa Claus coming on stage and starting with the smallest children he gives everyone a gift provided for by the parents or grandparents. This is wonderful to observe, even though it is quite a lengthy affair.

This event is so very much appreciated by the families of the community. The parents thanked both Laurie and Cheyenne for their efforts in introducing their children to the custom of old.
