Kateryna Yushchenko, the stylish First
Lady of Ukraine, was in Toronto last month to preside over a
black tie sponsor’s dinner and open the newest ROM
exhibit–Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine–the mysterious
7,000-year-old civilization, Trypillia, a sophisticated
prehistoric society older than Egypt, that built two-story
houses and large settlements with up to 15,000 people.
Toronto’s Ukrainian community is delighted to have its day at
the Royal Ontario Museum featuring the most important
large-scale exhibit of priceless artifacts of figurines,
statuettes, tools and pottery ever assembled under one roof and
first discovered in 1896 in present-day Ukraine.
The exhibit was initiated and presented by James Temerty,
president of green energy producer Northland Power and chair of
ROM’s board of governors, after a friendly conversation with
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko at the White House in
2005. Temerty has Ukrainian roots.
