Toronto, ON – This year’s finest selections of wines from around the world are…!

Fifteen of Canada’s foremost wine experts convened in Niagara-on-the-Lake last week to judge more than 750 entries in the InterVin International Wine Awards. Top sommeliers, wine writers, educators and winemakers assessed wines from 16 countries during the intensive three-day blind tasting staged at the fabulous White Oaks Resort & Spa.

The back room was bursting with excitement as the competition got underway as more than 2000 bottles of the world’s finest wines were grouped by varietal or style to ensure each was fairly evaluated alongside its international peers.

Judges for the InterVin International Wine Awards included internationally acclaimed sommeliers Zoltan Szabo and Jamie Drummond, respected wine writers Margaret Swaine and Daenna Van Mulligen and celebrated winemakers Darryl Brooker and Craig McDonald.

"We revived the InterVin awards as part of our on-going efforts to showcase exceptional wines to Canadian consumers," explains Christopher Waters, editor of Vines Magazine and head judge of the InterVin International Wine Awards. "Given the overwhelming response from the wine industry who submitted more than 750 wines to our competition and the unparalleled team of experts who shared their talent with us during the judging process, it’s clear that there’s tremendous interest and excitement surrounding the results of the 2009 InterVin awards."
