The Golden Keys celebrate their 20th anniversary

On October 3, 2009 this much-loved family (mostly) band celebrated their 20th Anniversary at the Hansa Haus – with the Hansa Haus.

It was a completely sold out affair.

Havin a partyAfter German Canadian Club Hansa president Reiner Walter welcomed the guests and congratulated the band, the stars of the evening marched in from the opposite site of the stage, playing their instruments. It was noticed that without electronics they sounded just fine. Band leader Eric Offak started the program with offering a toast to another anniversary – "the 20 year re-unification of Germany -. October 3 being Germany’s National holiday "Tag der Deutschen Einheit".

The future of the Golden Keys stepping to the foregroundThe whole family was on stage, including Heidi with husband Mike Gregoric and children. Josef Offak, the father congratulated bandleader Eric and the rest of the family on carrying on a tradition he had instilled in them.

Then the band started off with a few ‘schunkel"songs and sing alongs. In no time the dance floor was packed and the party mood was at a high that did carry through to well after midnight.

During intermission the Golden Keys distributed "Thank Yous" and gifts to their many fans and sponsors including Hansa Club president, Reiner Walter and wife Irmgard, banquet manager Karin Mueller Walter, function co-coordinator Robert Gutwein and wife Heidi, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stritzl, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Baumann from Donauschwaben Club, Marie and Marlies from Radio Herz, president Helmut Jandrisitis of Toronto Burgenlaender Club. The Burlington Burgenlaender honored the "Golden Keys" with a special plaque. All guests received a piece of the anniversary cake.

The entertainment continued with Mike Offak dressed as Heino, complete with trademark blond hair and sunglasses. He did lead the audience into sing along and hand clapping to Heino song "Blauer Enzian". Later on Heidi’s sons joint the band with Nicolas Gregoric (8) playing the baritone and Johny Gregoric (7) with his fresh and sassy voice singing in German and Slovenian. – it looks like the continuation of this family’s tradition is guaranteed.

Altogether it was a great evening and I wish the Golden Keys continued success and hope we all will spend many more such fun filled events together.

We at Echo Germanica/Echoworld Communications would to express our thanks for the many evenings when the Golden Keys made us feel great! Thank you all!
