Germany’s Flood Crisis |
||
The European flood crisis, especially in Germany, is devastating. Even in North America the heartbreaking photos followed us into our lives via the TV. Whoever can receive German television knows more. Others should inform themselves on the internet about how severe the situation really is. Our correspondent Antje in Dresden was without electricity for days. She lives only 50 meters from a very small creek, the Weissritz. This harmless trickle has developed into a dangerous river and now flows only 20 meters from her house. She managed to escape to her parents’ home before the bridges were closed down. She cannot believe it. Dresden looks like after a war! The devastation has turned peoples lives upside down and many lost practically everything. The damage cannot even be estimated yet, but it is clear that it will run in the billons of Euros. The official website of Saxonia gives information about everything we can do to help. www.sachsen.de leads you to the regular site from where you can click into the specific flood pages, where you also can find how to send money or other donations. www.dresden.de also has important data and what you need for the official bank information. We are calling all German Canadians and their friends to help! Sybille Forster-Rentmeister
