Community Events of Importance |
The President's BallThe anniversaries of our cultural venues are always important, even if it is not a memorable number. Every year we add on to the existence of a club or choir is a show of longevity and strength and a reason to celebrate. We try to attend as many of these special occasions as possible. This spring there already have been a few. We also attend fundraisers and inaugurations, which are as in the case of the Concordia Club in Kitchener, always a fancy affair with lots of VIPs in attendance.
The Who is Who of the political spectrum
comes out to support the community, including the Mayor of
Kitchener and the local representatives in Queens Park and
Ottawa.
Before the official purpose of the evening could be realized there was of course a musical offering by the Concordia Choirs under Dr. Alfred Kunz. This always meets with extreme favour by the attending guests.
Cowbell playing and Schuhplatter dancers were also welcome.
The swearing in ceremony was a well grooved in affair after which President Schlüter got to give away some well deserved money for charitable purposes, namely the Concordia Language School and a Haiti relief fund. Mr. Schlüter also took advantage to thank the women in his life that make everything a lot easier: his wife Angela, Rita and Sara Allmendinger and Miss Concordia before he could open the dance with his wife.
This of course was good opportunity to again hobnob with everyone and even have a word with the various politicians. Until next time |
